The awesome thing about making pizza at home is that you have the opportunity to create your own original flavour combinations. The limits are endless and its great fun experimenting with fresh ingredients.
Here are some of our ideas for toppings
After stretching out or rolling your dough its time to add your tomato based sauce. There are many variations and pre made tomato pastes that are tasty and value for money. We often use plain canned chopped tomatoes to add a ‘fresh’ element to our pizzas.
A good cheese will make the world of difference to any pizza. Often Mozzarella is the usual choice but Provolone cheese can also be used for the first layer of your pizza. Adding cheese first (onto your sauce) helps to keep the moisture from the ingredients off the crust. Then a little more can also be added to the top if desired. Parmesan, Ricotta and Feta will all add delicious flavours however some may find the aroma of Parmesan a little too strong.
Hard or soft flavoursome salamis or sausage add a lovely flavour to any pizza. Maybe try something with spice, pepper or garlic for an extra kick.
Meats such as bacon, cooked chicken and lamb work well on a ‘meat lovers’ type pizza. Add a swirl of barbecue sauce to finish your creation.
Mushrooms, courgettes, peppers, onions, tomatoes, spinach.., the list goes on. Vegetarian pizza is delicious and healthy, just mix and match to find your perfect combination.
Pumpkins seeds, sunflower seeds, pine nuts or even peanuts can add extra texture and flavour.
Fresh basil leaves will add a beautiful fresh flavour to Margherita pizza and of course don’t forget your salt and pepper.
